story submissions

Submission notes

We’re looking for real, raw adventure stories—the kind you’d tell your mates around the campfire after a long day in the bush, with a cold beer in hand. Out There is about unfiltered moments of grit, humour, and wonder: the weekend 4WD trip that went sideways, the fishing haul you’ll never forget, or the quiet of a remote campsite at sunrise. Keep it true, keep it conversational, and skip the how-to guides, gear reviews, or heartfelt essays about why your 79 Series is the best ever. For short stories, stick to 500–800 words - short, sharp reads that hit hard. For long stories, we’re looking for more immersive stories around 1,500 words. Submit your story as a Word Doc (.doc or .docx), with your title and name at the top of the document, and send it to submissions@outtherejournal.com. If it captures the spirit of Out There - rugged, aspirational, and a little unpolished - we’ll be in touch.
